…and you probably never will see anything like this elsewhere.
In my very humble but pointed opinion, the typical engagement photo (or couples portrait) today consists of two people dressed as if going to do yard work. They hold hands and stroll through a park, the guy’s hand stuffed into his jeans pocket with his thumb poking out like an appendage. There’s a whole bunch of shots of them kissing or staring at each other eyes wide open at an extreme close up range so bizarre because it’s unnatural. Photographic composition? Ha! It’s been thrown out the window. It looks more like a snapshot your cousin would take. Artistry? Don’t make me laugh. Too late. Ha ha ha.
That’s not a portrait.
Where’s the soul?
Where’s the passion?
Where’s the art?
Nowhere, that’s where.
Which is why I said, “enough!” and rolled out the Fine Art Noir Portrait Sessions. And discerning couples, those who feel other photographers all look the same, have come forward exclaiming, “yes! yes! photograph me!”
And I did.
This is for couples engaged, married or in a serious relationship, who desire a piece of art crafted from their lives.
They want to have art to hang in their homes, display on their walls, make a statement about themselves.
And oh my God, look what happened.
The other evening I previewed the fine art noir session photos for one of my couples and by the end of seeing her portraits, the bride-to-be was crying.
Was it because they’re Black and White? Was it because they’re artistic, about couples opening their hearts up, being themselves, and not the typical cheesy mundane stuff?
She loved them all. She was swept up by the images. But more than that…
She said what she saw in the portraits was a day in her life. In the photos she saw a reflection of her relationship with the man she loves.
And that’s what I was reaching for. The best you ever hear people say about other portraits are that they’re “nice” and “pretty.”
Never “I’m looking at my life.”
These tug at the heart. These look like art work.
Because I want my couples to be able to look at their portraits years from now and remember the days of their love together. And remember how they felt. Beautifully.
Take that, oh you cliché snapshots of engaged couples awkwardly dipping backwards with plastic grins mugging for the camera!
The Fine Art Noir Session is for couples who are engaged, married or otherwise in a serious relationship. Right now I’m looking for volunteers to model for it, so there’s no charge. Soon enough I’ll be charging a mighty fee commensurate with the experience, but not right now.
There’s no requirement to purchase anything either but you’ll get $100 in spending credit towards portraits if you do make a purchase.
I’m only accepting two sessions a week for a limited time. So now’s the best time to call 646.543.1321 to find out more about the Fine Art Noir Session or send in your details here:
