Wedding Photo of the Week #29 | New York Wedding PhotographerReviewed by G.E. Masana on Apr 11Rating:
Wedding photos that make you chuckle, wedding photos that make you say, “awww.” There are moments during the wedding day often overlooked by other photographers mainly because “they don’t sell.” And I suppose you could say that about a half-revealed face of somebody’s infant in the back row at the wedding ceremony.
Yet this was the face that greeted me as I walked into the church.
This was the face greeting everyone.
I wasn’t thinking of selling mass quantities of 8x10s when I made that photo but I was thinking of capturing the reality of the day for my bride and groom.
A different type of wedding photo than the typical, I’d give you that. But then I can’t approach documenting a wedding as if it were cast in a mold. I was reading an online critique of wedding photography where one photographer said that wedding photos should look like wedding photos. I suppose that means they should look like the usual suspects. As if just because a typical wedding image comes to mind when thinking about wedding photography that it should dictate what all further wedding images look like. As if simply because that’s the way the first person happened to do it, we should all do it that way. And then we’d never reach beyond the typical. Sadly, there’s a lot of unimaginative photographers advising other barely experienced newcomers with rubbish like that.
