With everyone’s life being so busy many couples want to make sure to give their friends, colleagues and loved ones plenty of advance notice to save the date for their wedding.
People got to have time to plan for this kind of stuff, you know? They have obligations to take care of, deadlines to meet, babysitters to arrange for, sometimes hotel and flight arrangements to make, they have busy lives… so what makes better sense than sending out Save The Date Cards so friends and family can have enough time to arrange everything they need to without giving them any undue stress?
So when to send Save The Dates? If you read around wedding blogs, they’ll tell you to send your Save The Dates one year before your wedding date, or six months before your wedding date, or nine months, four months, even as close to the wedding date as three months!
(Four months??? Three months??? Are they nuts? Are they joking??? Do they know a whole slew of people who have nothing going on in their lives but to lay around on a couch watching marathon episodes of Honey Boo Boo on demand until along comes your card two and a half months before your wedding date and only then they spring into action?)
I say as soon as you’ve signed on a venue you got to be letting people know about it, people.
It’s not like it’s the kind of thing you want to keep as a secret, is it? You DO want people to attend, don’t you?
So you sign on a venue, put together your guest list – and then send save the dates to everyone on that list. DONE. You just do it in that order. It’s that simple.
And the card doesn’t have to be anything fancy or extravagant. It just needs to look really nice. Because it sets the tone, it sets the expectation. I think it looks extra nice when it’s made with a photo instead of just plain ol’ printed. I’ve created several myself, such as the ones you see below.
If you’d like one of my Save The Date Cards, they’re available. But even better, for less than what you’ll pay elsewhere such as on Wedding Paper Divas, Shutterfly or Minted for Save The Date cards, you’ll also get a complimentary Engagement Portrait Session from me at no additional cost along with it – and that way we can come up with an original professional portrait of the two of you we can use on your Save The Dates to make them really nice.
Can’t beat that. Call me at 646.543.1321 and tell me you’re calling about the “Save The Date Cards Special.”
