Not to sound like I’m tooting my own horn, but I’m often asked how I’m able to capture so much emotion in the weddings I photograph and my answer is simply, “empathy.” I instinctively know what photos to take because when I’m at a wedding, it’s as if it’s my sister getting married… or my daughter… in other words it becomes my family event. Feeling that level of connection puts me right into the heart of the wedding.
For Michelle Wiedemuth, wedding planner at Unforgettable Hamptons Events, it’s the same exact thing when she helps her brides plan their weddings.
It’s as if she’s planning a wedding for someone in her own family. And the thing is, she can’t help it. It’s the way she was raised.
Her parents were genuinely hospitable, loved to throw parties. And growing up in that environment meant being immersed in the scene as her folks invited friends and loved ones to their dinner parties, watching her mom and dad make all the preparations to please everyone. Watching them as they went about finding out and knowing everyone’s favorite delights and preferences and then as they planned the night’s delicacies and offerings to satiate all their appetites.
And they did that because they loved their friends and family. That’s how they showed them their love.
And so, it was just the way it’s done. You just do it, that’s all. No questions about it, thank you very much. It’s all about family. It’s all done out of love.
So being raised like this, it becomes part of your DNA. It becomes who you are. And when that happens, then there is no other way to plan a party.
Through every little detail, with every thoughtful touch, in all of it, this is how love is shown.
And that’s a pretty great thing to have in your heart and soul when you plan a wedding for someone, isn’t it?
